Hayward cited over punching incident
January 6, 2000
Gloucester's former amateur boxer Byron Hayward has been cited by Bedford after an incident where he was alleged to have punched lock Chad Eagle.
The incident occured during a mass brawl that took place during last Thursday's match. Although Gloucester were penalised during the game the referee Nigel Yates did not single out one particular offender.
Eagle had to have five stitches above his eye and suffered a bruised jaw but he is expected to return next week.
Hayward, 30, has played international rugby for Wales and could have boxed professionally at cruiserweight level.
