Glasgow replace postponed fixture
January 6, 2000

Glasgow Caledonians' Celtic League clash with Swansea on January 28 has been postponed but they have moved immediately to bridge the gap in their fixture list.

A full Welsh trial would have left the Swansea squad severely depleted for the trip to Scotland and the Reds have agreed to the request to re-arrange the tie for later in the season.

But the spare weekend allows them to take up the option on a high-profile friendly against Premiership outfit Bath on Saturday, January 29.

"It is important that both countries involved in the Welsh-Scottish League support each other's international efforts," said Reds chief executive David Jordan.

"It is likely that we will be faced with a similar situation and it is good to know that, if necessary, we will be able to make similar arrangements.

"We are delighted that we are now able to play Bath as it will provide another great challenge for the Reds against top English opposition.

"The fact that Bath would consider this fixture shows just how much credibility the Reds have established in English rugby."

Because of the Welsh trial, Edinburgh Reivers' trip to Newport on January 29 is also likely to be called off, although they may use that weekend to play their outstanding home clash with Dunvant, who are not likely to be hit by international calls.
