Fog rules out Bristol - Sale

Bristol's Allied Dunbar Premiership game against Sale at the Memorial Stadium tonight has been called off due to fog.

Match referee Chris Rees supported the stadium officials in calling the game off even though the pitch was perfectly playable.

"The club have decided that due to the conditions the game should be called off and I wholeheartedly concur," said Rees.

"The pitch is soft enough to play but if you look at the forecast the fog is only going to come down further this evening.

"I've been here since 4.30pm and then everything looked all right for the game to go ahead. But as the sun has gone down the fog has come in and it is only going in one direction."

The two sides are due to meet again on Sunday, also at the Memorial Stadium, in the fifth round of the Tetley's Bitter Cup.
