Woodward not the man for England - Carling
January 27, 2000

Will Carling does not believe Clive Woodward should be England coach.

The former England captain told Radio 5 Live: "I don't think he's the right man for the job.

"He asked to be judged on the World Cup, then once it didn't go well he said 'I have a contract that I wish to fulfil.'"

Carling added: "You hear bits and pieces from players. I hear from players who were in the side and players who weren't in the side. Those players who weren't in the side obviously are not going to be a great fan of the coach but you also hear from players who were in the side and little bits come back.

"I look at it dispassionately not it(the World Cup) wasn't a success and I don't think the whole way it was planned and executed was a success. I don't think that while we have the same set-up that English rugby will be successful."
