Italy beat Georgia in Six Nations warm-up
January 27, 2000

Italy beat Georgia, today, 51-7, in a warm up for the upcoming Six Nations.

This was Brad Johnstone's first match as Italy's new coach, but the Italian Federation did not awarded caps to the players who took to the field.

The first half ended with Italy leading 16-0 thanks to a try by centre Luca Martin converted by Diego Dominguez and three penalty kicks which Dominguez put through the posts.

In the second half Johnstone gave all the players on the bench the opportunity to prove themselves and Italy scored 5 more tries, two by Diego Dominguez, two by new comer Viadana's New Zealand born flanker Aaron Persico and one by hooker Alessandro Moscardi. Dominguez converted them all.

At the end of game Johnstone said that the squad had played at 30% of their potential, but one month was not enough to change things radically. He also said that the match had given the players the opportunity to enjoy themselves. New captain scrum half Alessandro Troncon said he was satisfied with the team's spirit and thought it was a good base on which to start the Six Nations.

Georgia failed to qualify for the last World Cup after being beaten by Tonga in the play off. The game was played in Livorno. The attendance was 1.500.
