Hull calls it a day
January 27, 2000

Former England full-back Paul Hull today announced his retirement at the age of 31.

Hull, who made a club record 149 league appearances for Bristol, has finally conceded defeat after a long-running battle with Achilles tendon trouble.

The former Bristol captain starred on England's 1994 tour of South Africa, producing outstanding displays during both Tests against the Springboks, then winning further honours in Twickenham appointments with Romania and Canada later that year.

Although four caps proved a poor return for Hull's undoubted talent, he has no regrets.

"I've enjoyed some great highs and some big lows in my career, but all the targets I set myself, I achieved," he said.

He will continue his 13-year connection with Bristol by coaching the club's Under-21 squad.
