Former Samoan international lock Legi Matiu, in line to win his first cap for his adopted country France in Saturday's Six Nations opener with Wales, was hit by tragedy on Friday night when his two-month-old baby daughter died.

However, the 31-year-old New Zealand born scrummager, who plays for French side Biarritz, assured national coach Bernard Laporte that he would join up with the squad in time for training on Tuesday, the day after the funeral.
