Smooth time for Wasps
January 30, 2000

Tetley's Bitter Cup holders Wasps and Premiership leaders Northampton were tonight handed seemingly comfortable quarter-final ties against second division opposition.

Wasps, who beat Newcastle in a thrilling fifth round tie at Loftus Road today, will entertain first-time quarter-finalists Manchester on the weekend of February 26-27.

And Northampton, conquerors of Saracens yesterday, face a trip to 1985 cup runners-up London Welsh.

London Irish are rewarded for their stunning demolition of Leicester yesterday with another home draw, this time against high-flying Gloucester.

It promises to be the outstanding quarter-final contest, pitting together two outstanding sets of forwards.

Gloucester's west country rivals Bristol have home advantage against first division rivals Harlequins, and will fancy their chances of reaching the last four.
