SRU to release 5,000 tickets

The Scottish Rugby Union are to put 5,000 tickets for the Lloyds TSB Six Nations Championship game against France at Murrayfield on general sale.

Tickets priced £35, £30 and £25 for the March 4 encounter will be sold at outlets in Glasgow, Dundee, Aberdeen, Inverness and Galashiels as well as the main ticket unit at Murrayfield, which will be open between 8am and 6pm.

Having assured all Murrayfield debenture holders and club members that their ticket allocation will remain unaffected, SRU chief executive Bill Watson said the move was designed to counter stinging criticism following the recent World Cup.

The SRU were slated for not encouraging a wider public audience to their matches, which drew pitiful attendances to the 67,500-capacity stadium.

``We appreciate that the limited number of tickets which we can make available will not satisfy the enormous demand among Scottish rugby supporters to see Six Nations internationals at Murrayfield,'' said Watson.

``But we hope this initiative will be recognised as a start as we are determined to improve accessibility to Murrayfield on international match days and to work with our supporters in creating the best possible atmosphere in world rugby.''

Last season's Five Nations champions open their campaign with a ground-breaking trip to Rome to face Italy on Saturday before tackling Ireland in Dublin a fortnight later.
