Horan and Tune in doubt for Super 12 kick off

World Cup Wallabies Ben Tune and Tim Horan were major casualties in Queensland's first trial for the Super 12 rugby series Saturday.

Queensland Reds easily accounted for New South Wales Country 50-21 but Reds coach John Connolly may rue the visit to the Gold Coast after winger Tune suffered medial ligament damage to his troublesome left knee and centre Horan was to have X-rays on an injured foot.

Tune is considered highly doubtful for the Super 12 opener against Otago in Dunedin on February 26.

Horan was the first to limp off the field, lasting 15 minutes before being injured in a tackle.

Tune's game time was limited to just five minutes into the second half before he was twisted awkwardly in a tackle and carried from the field.

It was an injury to the same knee which delayed his start to last season's Super 12 competition.

Horan, voted the best player of last year's World Cup triumph, had planned to play 30 minutes to ease into the new season but will now face an anxious wait to determine the extent of the injury to his instep.

"Hopefully it will only be strained ligaments," Horan said. "I couldn't really run on it and coming off was the only real decision to make.

"It's not what you really need in the first game of the new season but hopefully it won't be too much of a problem.

"I'll have the x-ray and if that's clear then I should be right to play against Auckland next weekend."
