Fijian rugby's new star Filimone Delasau says his pace is 'not natural'.


Fiji's latest sevens star Filimone Delasau says his pace is 'not natural' and that he is still learning how to run.

22 year old Delasau scored 7 tries on Saturday as Fiji turned up the heat on world sevens opposition and romped away with the New Zealand leg of the IRB-sponsored World Series at Wellington's Westpac Stadium.

The keys to it all were the genius of Fijian playmaker Waisale Serevi and the outrageous pace of Delasau , a sugar cane farmer from Vitogo in Bau province.He has scored 65 tries in the 5 legs of the series but says he's had the hard work done for him,'I think I've been given the ball at the right times .So I have to thank the rest of the team for their work.If they didn't do the work in the middle it would be hard to get the ball to score tries.My pace is not natural pace like Serevi's . He has the natural skills.He was born with it.But me? I'm the photocopied one.I train hard every day , and I pray hard to the almighty Lord to give me the strength and to give me the side-step.It's not natural but I learn.'

Delasau was his school's 100 and 200 metres track champion but rugby has taken a front seat since then.He plays provincial rugby for Lautoka.Thirty thousand people marvelled at Delasau's skills on Saturday. 'I think this tournament is the best since the World Series started,' added Delasau ,' I think it's better than Hong Kong - because we beat New Zealand here!'
