February 8, 2000

Reports from Fiji are raising concerns about this weekend's sixth round of the World Sevens Series in Suva.

Reports coming out of Fiji are raising doubts about the Fiji Rugby Union's ability to find the funds they need to finance this weekend's round of the World Sevens Series.

The FRU says it has asked the Fijian government to assist it to the tune of $350,000 , the cost of staging the tournament. It has yet to be announced whether the government is prepared to provide this assistance and the fate of the tournament if the funding is not forthcoming.Prime Minister Mahendra Chaudry , who is Chief Guest at the Sevens, is reported to have said that he has yet to see the FRU's submission for assistance.

Meanwhile, the Fijian squad that triumphed at last weekend's event in Wellington has gone into camp today in preparation for their home tournament.
