New Zealand sevens coach admits that Lomu, Cullen and Ralph needed more time.

Responding to media criticism in New Zealand , sevens coach Gordon Tietjens has admitted that kiwi fans probably did not see the best of Jonah Lomu, Christian Cullen and Caleb Ralph who had been recalled to the New Zealand squad for the Wellington Sevens supposedly to strengthen it.

Tietjens has said that the three really needed more time to readjust to the short version of the game, having not played competitive sevens since the 1998 Commonwealth Games. He believes that in an ideal world they would have played in the two previous rounds of the competition which were held in South America.

The NZRFU has come under criticism for making the decision to include the three on marketing rather than rugby grounds.
