The captain of the Cats Super 12 rugby union team Rassie Erasmus has been ruled out of the first two months of the competition because of a pelvic muscle injury.

The Springbok loose forward underwent an operation on Wednesday after other remedies -- including ballet classes -- failed to rectify the problem.

An acting captain will be announced by Cats coach Laurie Mains later. The Super 12 starts on February 25.
