Davies rekindles test hopes
Llanelli
February 17, 2000

John Davies' recall to the Welsh 'A' side that will face their Italian counterparts at Ebbw Vale on Friday has given the veteran prop the opportunity to restate his claims for a test place.
The Llanelli tight head won the last of his 34 test caps on the ill-fated tour to South Africa and now, with his recall to the 'A' squad he is keen to add to his tally. He was a late replacement in the 'A' team win over France two weeks ago and now he replaces Ben Evans in one of two changes to the starting line up.
He has been in fine form for Llanelli both in the domestic league and Europe all season in what is proving to be a very strong Llanelli pack, and this recall to Welsh colours is no more than he deserves. However present captain David Young blocks the path of any return to the full side for the former Neath and Richmond player.
