Twickenham bars to remain open after Wales game
February 17, 2000

The bars inside Twickenham rugby ground will reopen for an hour after England's Six Nations match against Wales on March 4, the Rugby Football Union (RFU) said on Wednesday.

Bars in the ground are traditionally open before and after international matches but, following objections from local residents, they remained closed after the game against Ireland on February 5.

This decision caused uproar among rugby fans. The RFU said that after discussions with local police the application for a post-match drinks licence would not be opposed, although the matter is still to be determined by local magistrates.

"This will enable the impact of the crowd dispersal to be properly surveyed," the RFU said in a statement.

"The one hour post-match facility will be monitored by the RFU and the police and further discussions will be held to resolve a longer term arrangement which will meet the objectives of the RFU, the police and the local community."
