France fly-half Alain Penaud is out of Saturday's Six Nations Stade de France clash with England owing to an adductor muscle injury in his left leg, French team officials revealed here Friday.

Penaud, himself a stand-in for the injured Christophe Lamaison, had been expected to play despite pulling out of a training session on Tuesday.

His withdrawal means Thomas Castagniede switches to stand off.

David Venditti, originally among the replacements, will now come in alongside Thomas Lombard at centre, with Richard Dourthe at fullback.

France have called up Stade Toulousain centre Cedric Desbrosse as a replacement.
