Independent director will not seek re-election.

The NZRFU has announced that Kevin Roberts, an independent director on the Board , will not seek re-election.Roberts is the man behind the multi-million dollar deals the NZRFU negotiated with Adidas and Sky tv. Roberts has been heavily criticised in New Zealand for being one of those responsible for the over-commercialisation of rugby in New Zealand at the expense of established playing traditions. The All Blacks' average performances in 1998 & 1999 culminated in their elimination in the semi final of last year's World Cup against France. There has since been a groundswell of public opinion calling for a return to winning rugby. John Hart has been replaced as coach by Wayne Smith and Chairman Rob Fisher has declared his intention of stepping down.
