February 21, 2000

The Canterbury Crusaders begin their defence of their Super 12 crown against the Chiefs on Sunday without two of their All Black contingent.

Centre Daryl Gibson is still recovering from surgery to his wrist and prop Greg Feek has injured his elbow.

In the meantime, coach Robbie Deans and his assistant Steve Hansen have been talking about the success of their pre-season programme, ' We achieved what we set out to do with team building, physical conditioning and on-field development .It is hoped that these three important areas will serve us well down the track. The pre-season games provided us with a good reminder as to how challenging the campaign is going to be week by week.'
