February 27, 2000

The proposed gaming laws for the Fijian Rugby Union to become self reliant have been stalled by the Fijian government.Sports Minister Ponipate Lesavua says the Fijian Rugby Union was told that if it wanted the government to introduce gambling in Fiji it should first get the reactions of the people at grassroots level and also from religious organisations. He has said that the FRU has not followed the government's advice and so the proposal is at a standstill.
