Begles to let Berbizier go

Elite division side Begles-Bordeaux announced Friday that they won't be extending the contract of coach Philippe Berbizier when his current three-year deal runs out at the end of the season.

"Our decision was not a result of the recent defeats against Bourgoin or Pau (both home defeats) or the loss at Castres (50-13)," club president Michel Moga told the daily Sud-Ouest.

"From experience we know that a fourth season is always delicate as a result of finding new answers for the club, which is what we found out with former coach Christian Lanta," he added.

The former France coach was relieved of the national post three years ago because he was accused of making France play boring rugby.

In his time with Begle-Bordeaux, Berbizier led the team to two quarter-finals in the French championship, two semi-final appearances in the French Cup and one qualification for the European Cup.
