The groin muscle injury which forced the Highlanders' skipper off the field against the Cats a serious blow.

The Highlanders have paid a heavy price for their victory over the Cats in Dunedin on Friday evening.

Skipper Taine Randell tore his adductor muscle after an hour's play and will be sidelined for the next four or five.

Hooker, and fellow All Black, Anton Oliver will take over the captaincy during Randell's absence. His debut as skipper coincides with his 50th Super 12 appearance for the Highlanders.

It is fortunate for the Highlanders that next weekend they have a bye , before playing, on successive weekends, in Christchurch, Canberra and Auckland.

Highlanders' other All Black loose forward , Josh Kronfeld, who also left the field against the Cats because of injury is expected to be fit for their next game , against the Crusaders.

Randell has been in outstanding form in recent weeks and his presence will be missed in the Highlanders' pack.
