EAST IN A TIE WHILE THE BEST IN THE WEST ROLL ON IN THE US

Los Angeles, CA (April 9, 2000) The Kansas City Blues' sole grip on top spot in the Eastern Conference was short lived and they now share the lead
with Atlanta's Life College while the Gentlemen of Aspen steamrolled another
opponent in the West to mark Week 5 action of Super League.

Kansas City traveled to Boston hoping to keep its unbeaten record intact and
in a physical game dominated by the forwards, Boston jumped out to an early
lead. The Boston RFC took an 11-8 lead into halftime, but KC hit the front
in the second stanza with its second try of the match and was leading 18-11
with a minute to go when on the last play of the game Boston (2-1-1) scored
a converted try to salvage an 18-18 tie.

Both teams scored two tries apiece and the Blues remain one of three undefeated teams so far in 2000.

Meantime in Atlanta, Life College got back on track with a convincing 37-13
win over New York Old Blue. Life crossed for five tries while Old Blue could manage only one. The match was highlighted by the customary strong rucking of Old Blue (1-2-1) while Life put together an impressive 9 minutes of
continuous possession that began on their own goal line in the second half.

These two results mean that Life College (3-1) and Kansas City (3-0-1) are equal first in the East.

In the other Eastern Conference matchup of the weekend the Chicago Lions
atoned for their loss last week with a close 20-15 win over PAC. In a game
played on a partially snow covered field due to a heavy snow storm the
previous night in Chicago, the Lions again had to come from behind. This
team is gaining a reputation as a side that fights back in the second half
and this week was no different.

Trailing 7-15, Chicago clawed its way back scoring two tries late in the
game to seal victory. In the end the Lions (2-2) scored three tries to two
and dropped PAC (1-3) further down the points table.

In the Western Conference the Gentlemen of Aspen used their home field advantage high up in the Rocky Mountains to paste the Dallas Harlequins
55-24. The Gents (5-0) notched up ten tries while Dallas (1-3) scored four
to at least earn a bonus point. Aspen made some astute replacements at
halftime that paid immediate dividends with two tries in the first 2 minutes
of the second half.

While that was going on, newly-appointed Eagles coach Duncan Hall was busy watching Denver and Old Puget Sound Beach slug it out in Denver. The game, though scrappy at times, was a nail biter with the Barbos eventually getting away with a 27-26 win. Two of Denver's four tries were scored by Andre Blom who had an excellent game.

Old Puget Sound Beach answered with three tries of their own, the result of
some well-executed backline moves. The result helps Denver (2-2) to stay in
the hunt while a vastly improved OPSB (1-2) continues to impress in 2000.

Still in the West, a long-standing southern California rivalry was rekindled with OMBAC hosting Belmont Shore in the first of a weekend double-header in San Diego. The homeside skipped out to a handy 13-3 lead at the break and increased that margin to 20-3 early in the second half with the second of its two tries. However, Belmont didn't throw in the towel and closed the gap to 23-21 through a masterful goal kicking display by New Zealander Brad Raitt.

In the second match of the double-header on Sunday OMBAC played host to San
Francisco Old Blues at the Little 'Q' and was a comfortable 48-3 winner.
OMBAC scored five tries to Old Blues' solitary penalty goal.

The outside center was on target from everywhere slotting seven penalties
from seven attempts, but in the dying minutes of the game as Belmont was
pressing for a final score, OMBAC's own goal-kicking wizard Alistair Steele
potted his sixth goal of the day to clinch a 26-21 victory. Belmont Shore
(0-5) again managed to secure a bonus point by losing by fewer than 7
points, but will be looking forward to a week off to give it a chance to
regroup for the second part of the season.

After five weeks of Super League competition it's a close race in the
Eastern Conference with Life, Kansas City, Boston and Chicago all very much
in the hunt, while in the Western Conference the two unbeaten front-runners, Aspen and OMBAC, have moved away from the rest of the field.
