Manu Samoa to hold trial in Auckland

A new generation of aspiring Manu Samoan rugby players will be given their chance to demonstrate their skills to selectors when Manu samoa holds a trial in Auckland on May 10.

New coach John Boe met UK-based players in England recently, and on May 2 he held his first trial in Apia.The trial in Auckland will take place in the Western Springs area of the city. 'Our objective is to give the widest possible exposure to all Samoan rugby players who aspire to represent their country,' Boe said recently.

Some of the best known Samoan names in New Zealand rugby have been drafted in to help coach the two teams that will take part in the Auckland trial. The Michael Jones XV, assisted by former Manu Samoan scrum half Tu Nu'ualiiatia, will battle against the Olo Brown XV, assisted by Ponsonby coach Jack Hutch.

Boe said this was an excellent opportunity for the Samoan community to see their best rugby players in action. 'Entry is free and we have two matches for people to see.The curtain-raiser featuring two under 21 trial teams will begin at 6.00, followed by the Manu Samoa trials at 7.30 p.m. We hope that the Samoan community will take advantage of this excellent opportunity to see their aspiring rugby representatives in action.'
