Lewis to captain young Welsh squad
Andrew Lewis has been handed the captaincy of the Welsh Development side that will tour Canada next month.
The squad for the five-match tour includes nine players under 21, with the youngest 19 year old Bath second row Andrew Lloyd.
Only six capped players have been called up - Lewis, Matt Cardey, Shane Williams, Jason Jones-Hughes, Richard Smith and Chris Anthony.
However the majority have had Premier Division experience and national coach Graham Henry believes the party is "an exciting combination of youth and talent".
"It is an ideal situation to develop these players," added Henry. "They will be thrown in at the deep end against good opposition and they will need to adapt quickly to the higher demands."
"This is not a result-orientated tour. It is about players progressing in their development and eight or 10 of them proving that in a year or two they will be ready to play for Wales. If they respond as they should to this intense period of training and playing, they should emerge as better players and demand regular club rugby for next season," concluded the Welsh coach.
Henry will head the management team with Leigh Jones and Geraint John acting as co-coaches and Alan Phillips as tour manager.
