Pat Howard has accepted an offer from Leicester Tigers to become player-coach next season.

The Australian international centre/fly half has agreed to a one-year extension of his contract which will see him continue to play for the Tigers but also be responsible for coaching the backs. John Wells will continue to concentrate on the forwards.

Tigers director of rugby Dean Richards said, "We're delighted that Pat has agreed to stay on as player-coach. His appointment has brought with it continuity of personnel, but he also as an abundance of fresh ideas."

Howard is no stranger to the coaching role, having undertaken some of those duties while with ACT Brumbies in
Australia. He is also well known for
his tactical input at the Tigers this
season.
