Canada, Chile and USA secure World Cup Sevens places

Canada, Chile and the USA have secured places at the 2001 Sevens Rugby World Cup in Argentine, after the Americas Qualifying tournament played in the San Carlos de Apoquindo Stadium at Santiago de Chile last weekend.

Canada were crowned the tournament champions after beating Chile by 29-12. And in the crucial games for the 3rd place, USA beat Uruguay by 21-17. Chile will be making their first appearance in the World Cup next year.

The crucial game of the tournament was the South American semi-final between Chile and Uruguay, in which the local team won by 17-12 in extra time.
