Lee signs two-year deal with Reivers

Edinburgh Reivers have re-signed Scotland international full-back Derrick Lee on a new two-year contract.

The 26-year-old, who returned to Scotland last year after two seasons with London Scottish, will now be staying with the Reivers until June 2002.

Despite picking up a couple of injuries during this campaign he has been outstanding for both club and the Scotland A side.

And he is looking forward to the tour of New Zealand with Scotland next month after fully recovering from the cracked cheekbone he suffered in the Celtic League match against Ebbw Vale last month.

Lee becomes the fourth Reivers player to re-sign in recent weeks, joining Graham Shiel, Chris Paterson and Allan Jacobsen in pledging their immediate futures to the Super District.

Head of rugby Ian Rankin said: "I am delighted that Derrick has decided to
stay with the Reivers for another two seasons. We are beginning to build a squad which has considerable depth in talent and experience now."

The Reivers will also step up their bid to become champions of Europe next season with the signing of European Cup winner Don Mackinnon from Northampton. The Super District have held talks with the Scotland tour squad flanker and are confident that the deal will go through.

Mackinnon helped Saints to victory over Munster in the Heineken Cup final at Twickenham on Saturday and is looking for a new challenge elsewhere.

He was born in New Zealand and raised in Australia but qualifies to play for Scotland through his Edinburgh-born father.

Rankin admitted: "We have been having discussions with Don and we are
optimistic that we will be able to announce something sooner rather than later.'"
