IRFU impose club salary cap
Dublin
May 30, 2000

The IRFU have agreed a one year trial of a system of 'salary capping' for players in its league clubs.

Although our or five senior clubs were not in favour of the proposals, which were requested by the clubs as a whole, they will be in place for an initial one year period.

Accordingly, those regulations are now in place and are now binding on all
IRFU affiliated clubs. The regulations state that the maximum payable by a club to a player per season (not including the reimbursement of legitimate expenses) including match fees and win bonuses shall not exceed £IR3,500.

The overall limit for a club for all match fees and win bonuses for a season has also been set - at £IR50,000.
