Reivers scoop MacKinnon
Edinburgh

Edinburgh Reivers are set to pull off a major transfer coup later today with the signing of European Cup winner Don MacKinnon from Northampton.

The Super District have held talks with the Scotland tour squad flanker and are confident that the deal will go through.

MacKinnon helped Saints to victory over Munster in the Heineken Cup final at Twickenham on Saturday and is looking for a new challenge elsewhere. He was born in New Zealand and raised in Australia but qualifies to play for Scotland through his Edinburgh-born father.

Reivers' head of rugby Ian Rankin admitted: "We have been having discussions with Don and we are optimistic that we will be able to announce something sooner rather than later."

It would appear that the District will make the announcement of their big name capture at a press conference early on Tuesday afternoon.
