Manu Samoa coach John Boe has been speaking about Saturday's Epson Cup clash with Japan in Apia.

'They beat us in our first game of the tournament last year, but we subsequently had our revenge at the World Cup, so we expect good rivalry and competition on the field.'

Boe said he was very pleased with Manu Samoa's first game , a highly competitive one against Fiji which Manu Samoa won, 31-17.

'It was a great start to the tournament and it was particularly gratifying to see strong performances not only from our new caps, but also from our senior players who displayed great leadership on he field.'

Boe also believes an important factor in the team's win was the heartening level of crowd support for what was essentially a new team.

'I hope the people of Samoa continue to show strong faith in their team, because the players really appreciate the local support and respond very well to it.'
