June 29, 2000

Irish province Connacht have secured Steph Nel as their new Director of Coaching.

The 33-year-old South Africa succeeds New Zealander Glenn Ross who quit his post at the end of last season.

Nel coached South West Districts in South Africa last season and was involved with coaching roles at Northern Free State and Western Province in the previous two seasons.

Connacht, who will compete in the European Shield this coming season were given a boost in the last month when former test player Eric Elwood opted to stay in the West of Ireland rather than take a contract with a French club.
