July 26, 2000

Next season's IRB World Sevens Series will kick off in South Africa with the Rugby World Cup Sevens held in Argentina, the organisers have announced.

Following a successful tournament last year, won by Australia, a draft time-table for the 2000/2001 tournament has been agreed after meetings in Dublin.

Gone are tournaments in Suva, Paris and Mar del Plata and in are two tournaments to be held in the UK, probably London and Cardiff and one in Shanghai.

By the following season the number of tournaments will be raised from ten to eleven with the reintroduction of Mar del Plata and there is a possibility that the maximum of 12 will be reached the following year with the Paris tournament coming back.

The IRB World Sevens Series will kick off in November on Stellenbosch, South Africa.
