Munster march on
Limerick
September 15, 2000

Second half tries by centre Mike Mullins and No 8 Anthony Foley gave Munster a 36-13 win as they suppressed a brave challenge from Connacht at Thomond Park.

The reigning interprovincial champions did not have it all their own way, but that does not stop them topping the table after three wins out of three so far this season.

The western province trailed by 14 points after a quarter of an hour but fought back with ten points in as many minutes.

Munster had taken the lead when Ronan O'Gara converted Dominic Crotty's try. Then David Wallace crashed over, with O'Gara converting again and a Limerick party looked on.

But Connacht steeled themselves and Eric Elwood made the break that set up team captain Junior Charlie for a try in the 20th minute. Elwood converted that score and added a penalty.

Colm McMahon score in the left corner for Munster, who led by nine points at half time. And the Heineken Cup finalists pulled away with second half replacement Jeremy Staunton converting the tries by Mullins and Foley. Elwood kicked another penalty for Connacht.
