Wallabies warm up in Japan
September 22, 2000

Australia will play a warm up match against a Japanese President's XV in Tokyo on Saturday October 28 in the lead up to the team's European tour.

The match, which replaces the cancelled French Barbarians clash, will be the first game ever played by the Wallabies in Japan.

Australia's 27-man touring squad is due to return to their Coffs Harbour training base on October 16 to prepare for the tour before flying out to Tokyo from Sydney on Wednesday 25 October.

Wallaby Coach Rod Macqueen said the game in Japan will give his young team vital match practice before the European Tests.

"The loss of six senior players through retirement and injury has us back at the drawing board with a lot of work to do to establish new combinations in both the forwards and the backs," Macqueen said.

"The match in Japan will be a great experience for everyone and will give us a good opportunity to fine tune the new line up."
