New style league gets underway
October 12, 2000

Divisions two and three of the new-styled three Division AIB All Ireland League with 16 teams in each division, begins this weekend, while Division One starts on December 2.

The league is retaining the bonus points system introduced last season, which awards one bonus point for a team scoring four tries or more and a bonus point for a team defeated by seven points or less.

Two teams will be promoted and relegated from each division, although in Division three the bottom club will be automatically relegated and replaced by the winners of the four Provincial Qualifying League play-offs, while the second last placed team in
Division Three will play off against the runners up in the provincial qualifying competition.

This year's 48 strong league sees the introduction for the first time of Naas. They make their Division Three debut on Saturday with a home match against Barnhall.

Last season's Division Four champions Dublin University make their Division
Three debut at home to Richmond, while last season's Division Three winners
Ballynahinch begin their Division Two challenge on Saturday, also with home advantage against Midleton.
