Toyota and Kobe remain unbeaten
October 16, 2000

A fairly quite week as both the Kanto and Kyushu Leagues had a week's break though the Kansai League had a full round of fixtures.

Toyota and Kobe Steel both remained unbeaten and once again the winner of the league will probably be decided when they meet one another on November 26th.

Toyota beat Kintetsu 55-27 which leaves the Liners in 5th position while Kobe Steel hammered Kanegafuchi 54-0. That result, while not unexpected, will have the other teams thinking back to last year when the Steelers suddenly shifted into a higher gear. Having looked decidedly shakey in defence the champions have finally seemed to have sorted out the problems they had with their defence and in doing so have kept the only clean sheet in this year's competition.

World remained on track to finish at least 3rd with a 24-14 win over Toyota Jido and the local derby with Kobe Steel on the 22nd of October will no doubt bring back memories of the 2 games played between the sides last year. The game played at the regional level was won by Kobe Steel with the last kick of the game while the Company final saw a wonderful World fight back though in the end it was a case of too little too late as the Steelers walked off with the first stage of their double.

In the final game of the league Yamaha contined their disappointing run with a 32-32 draw with the perennial basement dwellers of the league Honda.

Results.

Toyota 55 Kintetsu 27
Kobe Steel 54 Kanegafuchi 0
World 24 Toyota Jido 14
Yamaha 32 Honda 32

Late result from the previous week in the Kyushu League.

Coca West Japan 32 Chugoku Denryoku 24
