England squad for Hong Kong
March 27, 2001

England have named a relatively inexperienced side for this year's Hong Kong 7s that kicks off on March 29.

With the Zurich Premiership reaching a critical stage and the small matter of a Six Nations clash with France a little over a week away, the lack of star names in the squad for the latest round of the World Sevens Series is no real surprise.

England sevens coach Adrian Thompson a has opted for five student players - Oxford University's Luke Sherrif, Simon Miall, Sebastian FitzGerald and Nick Marsh together with Cambride University's Chris Davis.

England sevens coach Adrian Thompson told AFP, "Our sevens strategy is to develop players who have the potential to play international rugby and the composition of the squad represents this with an emphasis on youth.

"The demands of the IRB World Sevens Series and the Hong Kong tournament in particular will provide the ideal environment to test their abilities."

England squad:
Chris Davis (Cambridge University), Luke Sherrif (Oxford niversity),
Russell Earnshaw (Rotherham), Simon Miall (Oxford University), Jamie Hamilton (Leicester), Rob Stewart (North Shore, Auckland/Nzl), Sebastian FitzGerald (Oxford University), Mark Meenan (Leicester), Nigel Simpson (Rotherham), Mark Cueto (Sale), Nick Marsh (Oxford University), Jon Sleightholme (Northampton).
