Jarvis take Wales to first 'A' win
April 8, 2001

Fly-half Lee Jarvis made a dream return to the Wales A side by scoring all his side's points in their 25-16 victory over Italy A at the Stadio Mirabello.

Wales A recorded their first win of the current Six Nations campaign, with Jarvis notching up an impressive personal tally of 25 points. The Pontypridd kicking machine kicked six penalties and a conversion and also scored superb solo try as Wales ran out worthy winners in Reggio Emilia.

Fly half Jarvis, who will leave Pontypridd for Neath at the end of this season, got the game's first points with a penalty after 13 minutes. Jarvis then stretched Wales' lead with another penalty just inside the Italian half to give his team a 6-0 lead. Italy replied with their first points when Francesco Mazzariol, the Benetton Treviso fly half, slotted over a 40 metre penalty after Wales were caught offside at a ruck.

Jarvis stepped up to slot over his third and fourth penalties of the evening to give Wales a deserved 12-3 lead at half-time. After the break Italy clawed themselves back into the game with a second penalty by outside half Mazzariol before Jarvis banged over his fifth and sixth.

Jarvis then capped his one-man show with a superb solo try after a kick and chase inside the Italian 22. He converted his try before Mazzariol then slotted over his third penalty for Italy midway the second half.

Italy were awarded a penalty try in the dying minutes which was converted by Mazzariol - but Wales emerged with the much needed win.
