Argentina will go take only six professional players to Canada for the forthcoming PanAm Championship - but are confident they can repeat the success they achieved with a young team in the same competition five years ago.

Bristol players Agustín Pichot, Felipe Contepomi and Eduardo Simone,
plus Gonzalo Camardón, are leading the squad while two uncapped players Matías Albina (Padova, Italy) and Santiago González Bonorino (Castres, France) are the only other professionals.

There will be five players new to the test squad - but they bring plenty of experience from under age teams and sevens competition. They are prop Pablo Cardinali (Los Tilos), locks Gustavo Morales Oliver (San Luis) and Mariano Sambucetti (BACRC), winger Francisco Leonelli and veteran hooker Juan José Villar (CUBA).

So why so many new faces? Do the Pumas need this renovation? What has happened to the 1999 RWC heroes? Many of them are still in France where the Championship won't finish until June and coaches Marcel Loffreda and Daniel Baetti has decided to keep them in reserve for the forthcoming tour of New Zealand.

Amongst those unavailable for the PanAm competition are captain Lisandro Arbizu, Gonzalo Quesada, Ignacio Fernández Lobbe, Ignacio Corleto, Federico Méndez, Diego Albanese, Mario Ledesma, Alejandro Allub, Roberto Grau and Omar Hasan.

The squad will be complete with local stars like Rolando Martín, Gonzalo Longo,Santiago Pelan and José Orengo.
