Lightweight Suntory face tough Welsh task
Wales Tour
June 2, 2001

Wales kick off their Japanese tour tomorrow against Suntory, one of the powerhouses of local rugby.

After running up 101 points in their last practice game, Suntory face a much more severe test against a Welsh side with several young players -including Bath scrum-half Gareth Cooper and Swansea stand-off Gavin Henson - hoping to impress for the two up-and-coming Test matches.

Suntory will have a 90kg weight disadvantage in the scrum, but will be hoping new centre Alama Ieremia, who has 30 caps for the All Blacks, will give them an edge in the backs.

Suntory have three players who trained recently with the ACT Brumbies in Australia, including number eight Naoya Saito, who was the star of Japan's recent Test against Taiwan.

Wales have been in training for a week and should ease past their first opposition, but Suntory will be hoping to take their game to another level after winning the domestic club title last season.
