Larkham relishing Wilkinson challenge
June 28, 2001

Wallaby fly-half Stephen Larkham is expecting a totally different Jonny Wilkinson to the one he faced in 1998 when Australia crushed England 76-0.

"Jonny has come a long way since 1998 and will go into this game in a lot of form, bringing overall stability to the team," the Brumbies playmaker said.

"The Lions have been very impressive. They are an entertaining side that likes to throw the ball around but we want to test their capabilities."

Larkham performances in this season's Super 12 brought him rave reviews as the the Brumbies raced to the title. Since then he has undergone corrective eye surgery, a point not wasted on those that said his game couldn't get any better.

"I have always said that I would eventually get around to having it done and this was the best time to do it," added Larkham, who underwent corrective work earlier this month.

"There would be times in a game when I might not see the ball or the sidelines properly, but it was just something that I got used to.

"I have noticed the difference already - at least I can see if an opposing player is a back or a forward now!"
