Larkham okay, Charvis gets two
July 1, 2001

Five-eighth Stephen Larkham is expected to be fit to play for the Wallabies in the second Test against the Lions next Saturday night at Colonial Stadium, despite injuring his elbow last night.

Scans have revealed Larkham had a slight muscle tear, but team medical staff are optimistic that he will recover sufficiently to play as the Wallabies battle to keep the series alive in Melbourne.

Captain John Eales also had a positive medical report this morning, expecting no problem from a cork leg after being replaced during the loss.

But British and Irish Lions No.8 Colin Charvis will not be playing in Melbourne, after he was suspended for kneeing.

Bench player Charvis will miss Tuesday's match against the ACT Brumbies and Saturday's second Test after being found guilty by an International Rugby Board judiciary panel.

He was reported by citing commissioner Steve Hinds of New Zealand over an incident where he appeared to drop his knee into Nick Stiles' ribs as the Wallabies prop lay on the ground near a ruck.

Meanwhile, New South Wales' five-eighth Manuel Edmonds was drafted into an extended squad as a precaution, along with Waratahs' hooker Brendan Cannon, who will replace Jeremy Paul.

Paul, Australia's frontline hooker, is out for the season with the knee injury suffered in the stunning 29-13 loss.

Wallabies coach Rod Macqueen also called in three other New South Welshmen - prop Rod Moore, second rower Tom Bowman and flanker Phil Waugh - to the squad to help the team prepare for the second Test at Colonial Stadium.

Macqueen said his team faces a huge challenge to rebound after the disappointment of last night.
