Healey demands Lions 'make it happen'
July 8, 2001

Austin Healey has demanded that he and his fellow Lions 'make it happen' when they take on Australia in the deciding Test in Sydney on Saturday.

Speaking in The Observer he said, "We are underdogs now. That suits us. It' stime to get back to that spirit of Brisbane. Just say it's time for us to have our backs to the wall. That's when we really go strong."

Healey was forced to pull out of the 22 for the 2nd Test after he failed to recover from a dead leg sustained against the ACT Brumbies on the Tuesday, but he believes he will be fully fit by Wednesday.

He also admitted that he felt for the team after the defeat at the hands of the Australians in Melbourne. "When you see four of your mates going off to hespital you realise what a battering it was out there andhow badly we need to stick together now. The changing room was an emotional ruin after the game. The boys just felt they'd let themselves down.

"It's hard to describe how a changing room can go from that sense of achievement to this sense of ...well, failure, I suppose. I just think we should have won the bloddy game."

As for the challenge that lies ahead in Sydney, Healey is full of confidence. "Can we really do now? Yes. Believe it. Yes. We've got to get to Sydney and do something together. These are the biggest seven days of our rugby lives. We've got to make it happen."

Healey may find himself at his preferred position of fly-half for the crucial clash. With Rob Howley ruled out and Jonny Wilkinson doubtful it is likely a new half back pairing of Matt Dawson and Healey may take the field in the hope they wold provide the most dynamic combination.
