CC: Swart in the spotlight
July 12, 2001

Francois Swart will be the name on everyone's lips when he takes the field for the Leopards against the Border Bulldogs in East London on Friday.

Although the youngster came on as a replacement against Western Province last weekend, there were only around 5,000 spectators at the match.

This weekend however, Swart's performance will be scrutinised by the nation as the game will be screened on national television and will see the youngster start his first Currie Cup game.

Swart shot to prominence when he was selected by Harry Viljoen to attend the Springbok training camp at Plettenberg bay earlier this year. Although Viljoen has tried to downplay the selection, there will no doubt be much pressure on the 19-year-old to prove that he has what it takes to perform at this level.

Swart's inclusion at flyhalf has caused a reshuffle in the backline as Danie de Beer moves to fullback in the place of Patrick Pietersen who moves to the wing. Riaan van der Berg moves onto the bench.

Leopards : Danie de Beer, Patrick Pietersen, Johan Calitz, Nico Röhrs, Lawrens Nkosi, Francois Swart, Francois Janse van Rensburg, Theunis Barnard, Bloues Volschenk, Diaan Kruger, Willem Stoltz, Werner Lessing (captain), Pierre du Toit, Hennie Pieterse, Sampie Hendriks. Substitutes: George van der Walt, Rupert Taljaard, André Ceaser, Isaac Treurnicht, John Cooper, Riaan van der Berg, Mark Johnson.
