Falcons cull elephants
July 15, 2001

The Falcons tore into the not-so-mighty Eastern Province Elephants 56-36 in a Currie Cup match at the Barnard Stadium in Kempton Park on Saturday.

The home side lead 35-19 at halftime. The Falcons dominated all phases of play from the outset with their forwards laying the foundation for their victory.

Falcons left wing Johan Houtshamer scored four tries in 16 minutes in the first half to take the wind out of the visitors' sails.

It shouldn't be all smiles for the home team however, because of their poor defence on the three-quarter areas. The Falcons did enough to get five points out of the game and remain in the lead of section X with 10 points.

Scorers:

Falcons - Tries: Deon de Kock, Johan Houtshamer (4), Turtius Douw, Ruan Coetsee, Joe Esterhuizen; Conversions: Dawie du Toit (8).

EP - Tries: Chad Alcock (2), Ricardo Loubscher, Heinrich Stride, Barry Pinnock; Conversions: Justin Peach (4); Penalty: Peach. - Sapa
