Larkham in Wallaby squad
July 16, 2001

Manuel Edmonds has been bracketed with Stephen Larkham while prop Bill Young makes his return in the 28-man Wallaby squad named for their upcoming Tri-Nations Test against South Africa in Pretoria on Saturday week.

The squad will be the first one under the control of new coach Eddie Jones who takes the reins from Rod Macqueen after he made his glorious exit with a series victory over the Lions last Saturday night.

The squad will assemble in Perth later this week with Young returning from the knee injury sustained in the Brumbies' winning performance in the Super 12 final this year.

Larkham will undergo a scan on his injured shoulder later this week with New South Wales flyhalf Edmonds to take his place if it fails to repair.

Jones, who coached the Brumbies to the Super 12 title this year, believes the world champion Wallabies can draw inspiration from their cricketing brethen as they seek to improve on their imposing list of achievements.

Jones acknowledged it was an enormous step up from provincial to international rugby, but admitted he had been fortunate to work alongside Macqueen in a transitional phase over the last few weeks.

"I'm very thankful for that to have some exposure to the national team over the last period of time," said Jones.

"But I'm aware it's another level up. Obviously the Australian team has been successful and we look to improve on those performances."

The squad will assemble in Perth, Western Australia on Thursday.
