Bok job unlikely for Macqueen

Former Australian coach Rod Macqueen will act as an advisor and consultant to the Australian Rugby Union, quashing the possibility of him being brought into the Springbok setup by coach Harry Viljoen.

Viljoen, at a press conference on Monday, confirmed that he would not be averse to the idea of using Macqueen as a consultant in the Bok setup.

However, just three days after completing the most successful tenure of any Wallaby coach, Macqueen was back at his old employer's office on Tuesday talking to ARU general manager John O'Neill.

Under Macqueen, Australia completed its first series victory over the British and Irish Lions last weekend and won every major trophy including the World and Bledisloe cups and the Tri-Nations trophy.

O'Neill said Macqueen would most likely turn down reported job offers from South Africa.

"Rod is a big thinker about this game, the direction of the game, the laws, the way the game is played," O'Neill said.

"But even on big issues for us like the fourth Super 12 team, setting it up, the planning, the preparation and what to do and what not to do, his experience puts him in a perfect position to help on that." - Sapa/AFP
