Blades switch to Glasgow
July 18, 2001

Glasgow Caledonians have signed Australian international prop Cameron Blades from New South Wales Waratahs.

The 29-year-old, who played for the Wallabies' A team against the Lions last month, is expected to join the Reds in mid-August.

Blades has signed a two-year contract with the Glasgow team and will enter Great Britain through his Irish passport, which means will be able to play in the Heineken Cup as a non-foreigner.

``David Hilton and Gordon McIlwham were virtually ever present for the Reds last season,'' said Reds coach Richie Dixon.

``It was therefore important that we recruit a prop of Cameron's ability who, along with Lee Harrison, will now give us the strength in depth required for the rigours of our very competitive season.''
