Springbok embarks on Italian coaching career
July 19, 2001

Former Springbok international back row Jannie Breedt has taken a step towards his ambition of coaching the Italian national side by accepting a role as coach of Bologne.

A member of the Transvaal pack during his playing days Breedt played eight Tests of South Africa including two against a World select XV in 1989 when he captained the side.

He shunned working in his home country, tired of the poilitics in South African Rugby, and joins Marcelo and Massimo Cuttita at Bologne, Italian nationals brought up in Durban.

The Italian season starts on September 8.
